To me, creating with intention is the deeper call of ‘sustainability.’
Handmade books might seem extravagant or unnecessary in a planet already full of cheaply made, mass produced items. However, I would argue the opposite: as we collectively move to instead create physical items with intent, with beauty, and with care—and deeply cherish all the items we use—we will begin to craft a better place for all of us.
Someone once told me our society’s problem is not that we’re too materialistic, but that we’re actually not materialistic enough: that if we appreciated all of the labor and materials that go into the creation of items, we’d see the world in a different light.
This is the world I invite you to join me in.
This level of craft is far beyond the call of sustainability.
It invites us into the creation of beautiful things
that make life worth living.
Hand bookbinding is
not efficient, nor discounted.
The books I create are made over hours, not minutes. I craft books with my intentions for the future owner in mind each step of the way, and with a reverence to all the natural places and people in the world who contributed to creating the materials that will be incorporated into the book.
